The students, staff, and alumni of Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic School created a rain barrel to reflect their love of God's creation. The handprint leaves and flowers are meant to show that all of us have a "hand" in taking care of what has been so graciously bestowed upon us.
The rain barrel will be on display as part of a silent auction at "Earth Day Fort Wayne," which will take place on Sunday, April 22, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at Eagle Marsh (6801 Engle Road, Ft. Wayne). For those not familiar with the event, there will be many fun activities for everyone to enjoy, so bring your family and friends! There will be education stations full of nature-themed crafts and activities, food trucks, a farmer’s market full of local goodies, many booths of like-minded organizations in the area, an area where participants can plant native plants, and more!
The Rain Barrel Contest will take place in the LRWP Information Tent. All guests will receive a ticket at the entrance to the event to vote for their favorite barrel, “The People’s Choice”. Judges will be determining a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place barrel as well. There will also be a silent auction taking place, allowing guests to bid on barrels to keep, with all proceeds going to help Little River Wetlands Project with future conservation efforts. The contest will go until 3:30 PM, and winners will be announced at 4:15 PM.
